Glossary
| OEE | Overall equipment effectiveness. Availability × performance × quality, as a percentage. |

| Availability | Run time divided by planned production time. |
| Performance | Ideal cycle time × total count, divided by run time. |
| Quality | Good count divided by total count. |
| Ideal cycle time | The fastest sustainable time to make one unit, the basis for the performance factor. |
| TEEP | Total effective equipment performance. OEE × utilisation, measuring against all calendar time, not just scheduled time. |
| The six big losses | Breakdowns, setup and changeover, minor stoppages, reduced speed, process defects, startup rejects. |
| Andon | An operator signal, often a button, that logs a stop and its reason at the line. |
| From source | Recalculated from the underlying data on every read, not from a stored value. |
| Audit trail | The attributed, timestamped, reversible record of every change to the data. |
| MTBF / MTTR | Mean time between failures and mean time to repair; the reliability measures behind availability. |
| GARPI™ | Global Asset Reliability and Performance Index: the independent, ISO 55001 and GFMAM-aligned Optimal benchmark of asset-management maturity, a 0 to 100 composite score across eight weighted dimensions and five maturity tiers. |
FAQ
Do we need new sensors?
Not always. If run and stop state, counts and a quality signal already exist in your PLC, historian or MES, OptimalOEE™ integrates them. A retrofit sensor fleet is only for lines where those streams are not captured. See Value and deployment.
Why recompute from source instead of storing OEE?
So the number is always current and always traceable to the raw reading, and so corrections leave an audit trail rather than overwriting history.
Is there a mobile app?
Yes, the OptimalOEE™ Companion App, available on Android, for live shift OEE, losses and alerts on the floor.
How does OptimalOEE™ relate to the other Optimal apps?
